Bishop Slams Democrats for Misleading Public, Partisan Abuse of Committee
“I wish I could say I am surprised…”

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 18, 2020 -

Today, Ranking Republican Rob Bishop (R-Utah) released the following statement on another partisan event scheduled by Committee Democrats and deliberately advertised as official committee business. The meeting — initiated with doctored Committee letterhead and supposedly unbeknownst to Chairman Grijalva — was scheduled without invitation or notice to Members of the Committee or those directly affected by the misleading event.

“It is shameful Democrats are again moving forward with partisan politics. It is interesting that even Committee Democrats were weary of this forum as they initially denied involvement in the event despite the ‘official’ invitation to participants that Subcommittee Chair Huffman sent on faux Committee letterhead. I wish I could say I am surprised, but when Democrats mislead participants, the public, and even staff, for political gain, it diminishes the reputation of our committee. There are Committee members, myself included, who have constituents impacted by the topic of this misleading event. It’s unfortunate that partisan games and trampling voices of the Minority has become habitual conduct for Committee Democrats.”
