Committee Advances Bipartisan Bill to Memorialize World War II Veterans

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 30, 2017 -

Today, the Committee passed H.R. 4300, the “Admiral Lloyd R. ‘Joe’ Vasey Pacific War Commemorative Display Establishment Act.”  Introduced by Subcommittee on Federal Lands Ranking Member Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI) and House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Rob Bishop (R-UT), the bipartisan legislation establishes a memorial at Pearl Harbor to honor the U.S. service members who served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

“I am very pleased that H.R. 4300, the Admiral Lloyd R. “Joe” Vasey Pacific War Commemorative Act, was favorably reported by the committee this week. I thank Chairman Bishop for his partnership and leadership on moving this bill forward, and to Ranking Member Grijalva and a great number of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for their cosponsorship of this legislation.  The establishment of this Pacific War memorial will complete the story of the Pacific War, next to the USS Arizona and the USS Missouri, at Pearl Harbor as well as provide loved ones with a place to mourn.  This means a great deal to Admiral Vasey, who came up with the idea for this bill and is its namesake.  He is a 100-year old Pacific War veteran and it is my hope that Congress can pass this into law during his lifetime,” Rep. Hanabusa stated.

“I commend Rep. Hanabusa for her commitment to honoring our World War II veterans of the Pacific Theater and look forward to working with her to move this bill through the House,” Chairman Bishop said.
