Bishop Letter to Secretary Zinke in Support of Department of Interior's Reorganization Effort

Today Natural Resources Committee Chairman Rob Bishop (R-Utah), and Subcommittee Chairmen sent a letter to United States Department of the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke in support of the department’s efforts in reorganization.


"As Members of the House Committee on Natural Resources, we are writing in support of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s (DOI) efforts at reorganization. We are encouraged to see that DOI leadership shares our desire to improve department efficiency, and we applaud the proposed reorganization plans as a first step in transforming the Department for the 21st century.


“One aspect of DOI’s reorganization proposal includes the establishment of common regions using science-based boundaries to improve management of federal lands and resources. We are hopeful that creating common regions will reduce administrative redundancy, promote resource sharing and decision-making, and increase DOI’s focus on the field. To complement these new regions, we understand DOI is also considering the establishment of Department-level managers for each region, whose responsibilities would include resolving conflicts caused by overlapping bureau jurisdictions…"
