H.R. 6009, the Restoring American Energy Dominance Act

While on the campaign trail, then-candidate Joe Biden said during a primary debate, “No more drilling on federal lands.” The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) proposed regulations attempt to accomplish President Biden’s campaign promise by limiting onshore leasing, reducing flexibility, and increasing fees. The regulations propose eliminating nationwide bonds while increasing individual bonding requirements 15-fold and statewide bonding requirements 20-fold.

H.R. 6009 would require the BLM to withdraw this rule that would significantly increase and create new fees for oil and gas production on federal lands, shutting down small businesses and driving up energy costs for American consumers. It also acknowledges the BLM’s statutory mission of managing our federal lands for multiple uses, including energy and mineral development.
